Hop aboard the San Diego Trolley for a convenient, scenic, and eco-friendly way to explore America’s Finest City. From vibrant neighborhoods to stunning coastal views, this iconic light rail system is your ticket to unforgettable adventures in Southern California.

The San Diego Trolley is more than just a way to get around—it’s an integral part of the city’s charm and culture. Whether you’re heading to a Padres game, exploring historic Old Town, or simply soaking in the coastal views, the trolley offers a unique and memorable way to experience San Diego.

Why Visit the San Diego Trolley?

The San Diego Trolley isn’t just public transport, but it is a bright red joyride through the heart of one of California’s most vibrant cities. Travellers can ride through buzzing streets to East County’s mellow charm, by the modern campuses of UC San Diego, and even cruise all the way to the edge of the border.

This isn’t a stuffy subway experience. It’s clean, it’s breezy, and the views out the window? Pure SoCal magic. Think palm trees, taco stands, murals, sun-soaked streets. Each stop has its own flavor. Old Town smells like fresh tortillas, the Gaslamp sparkles with rooftop bars, and Chula Vista hums with local life.

The Trolley isn’t just getting riders from place to place, but it is dropping them right into the middle of San Diego’s personality, one station at a time. Forget the stressful traffic and parking issues. This ride is smooth, affordable, and full of surprises. One station at a time, the Trolley is delivering passengers not just from one location to another but also directly into the heart of San Diego's character.

  1. Scenic Routes: Enjoy picturesque views of San Diego’s skyline, Mission Valley, and the San Diego Bay as you glide through the city.
  2. Convenience: The trolley runs frequently, with trains arriving every 7-15 minutes during peak hours.
  3. Affordability: Fares are budget-friendly, starting at $2.50 for a one-way trip, with day passes available for unlimited rides.

Tips for the Best Trolley Experience

  1. Get a PRONTO card or download the app to save time and money, both, paying $6 each day for unlimited rides.
  2. Sit on the right side when in the blue line, having the scenic beauty of San Diego right in front of your eyes, including bay, ships, and street art.
  3. Some Trolley stations feel like open-air art exhibits, featuring bold murals and striking public art; standout spots include Little Italy, Barrio Logan, and 12th & Imperial, all perfect for a quick photo session.
  4. Since there are no conductors calling out stops, it’s best to keep an ear out for the automated announcements or watch the signs at each station as you ride.
  5. Save a map offline or grab a quick screenshot of your route since some areas along the Trolley line have patchy signals, and it’s always good to stay one step ahead.
