  1. Visit during negative low tide – That’s when most marine life is visible; check tide charts before you go.
  2. Enter through Cabrillo National Monument – The tide pools are inside the park; there’s a $20 entrance fee per vehicle.
  3. Watch for waves – Sudden swells can splash unexpectedly in this rocky intertidal zone and can be a safety hazard.
  4. Don’t miss the lighthouse – After exploring the pools, check out the historic Old Point Loma Lighthouse.
  5. The best time to visit- The fall and winter months, specifically November through March, when low tides occur during daylight hours which reveal most of the marine life.



How to reach Point Loma Tide Pools


Although driving to Cabrillo National Monument and taking a short hike to reach the tide pools is convenient, traveling by Bus 84, which passes near the destination, is also an option.
